Topic: How publics participate in and care for health systems

Anchor talk by Ellen Stuart (University of Glasgow), author of books “Publics and their health systems: Rethinking participation” and “How Britain loves the NHS: Practices of care and contestation”. In her work, Ellen demonstrates the diversity of contributions local communities, patients, and publics make into making healthcare work. Some of these contributions are very visible like committees, some are hidden like various unsanctioned improvements, and some are in-between like fundraising. During this workshop, we will delve into this diversity and discuss how it can be acknowledged in the efforts to make health systems more participatory.
