Description

Following an introductory lesson on a social problem in social studies, Remco van Dijke was asked by Saskia van Bruchem-Pendjol to spend a day at the Beekdallyceum in Arnhem giving guest lectures on his research.
He divided his lessons into two parts. The first part, Remco discussed his research on the relationship between bystander conflict and the police and the possibility to study at the Open University. In the second half, he dealt with the students' assignment. The students of 4 HAVO and VWO were given the assignment to research a social problem. Remco gave them tips on looking for articles, finding sources, assessing sources on reliability and validity and what can be done with research in the end. In total he gave 6 lessons of 40 minutes. 2 for vwo and 4 for havo. Saskia thought the day went well. We noticed that the students were enthusiastic and centrally gave examples, asked questions and discussed the subject.
