    Description

Hierarchical graphic organizers in hypertext have been repeatedly shown to lead to the best learning outcomes for low prior knowledge learners, but at the same time they seem to be no more effective than graphic organizers with a different structure (e.g., linear, network) for high prior knowledge learners (DeStefano & LeFevre, 2007). However, it is less well understood whether hierarchical graphic organizers and hypertext that is organized hierarchically through hyperlinks (i.e., without a graphic organizer) have differential effects on learning. The aim of the present study is therefore to examine the influence of different manifestations of hierarchical structures in hypertext for learners with different levels of prior knowledge.
