Description
By using the theories of script and social practices, I will discuss why we should think about technology and inclusion. With inclusion you can think of different things, like inclusivity and diversity of your research population, but also active involvement or inclusion of people in research and development processes. I will talk about the benefits of collaborating WITH possible users instead of designing FOR them. Two different case studies with often neglected populations, one on eHealth for people with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and one on a digital assistant for people with dementia and a migration background, are discussed regarding the social practices and value of inclusion. Overall, the presentation will give food for thinking about technology and inclusion. It might assist with understanding the users and the possible use, you can know more about changing practices and increase the possibility to act on these changes, inclusion and active collaboration might avoid issues like stigmatization or ageism, and also for those who are collaborating (both researchers as participants) it enhances mutual learning. Furthermore, and not the least important, it is a lot of fun!| Period | 14 Oct 2024 |
