Description

Summary

Capacity building throughout stakeholder groups is essential to increase awareness and support action at all levels and at global scale. This presentation will highlight the findings of a virtual workshop among stakeholders from the UNEP Major Groups as well as different geographic areas, with the objective to identify needs for the development of capacity building resources and activities in general. The findings of the workshop included feedback on challenges experienced by the participants as well as success stories. One of the key challenges that emerged from the discussions, is the need to integrate and align capacity building efforts at a global scale, while at the same time taking into account the varying needs and barriers among communities, geographic areas and scales. This emphasizes the importance of, inter alia, integrating work with local communities into networks operating at global scales, supporting self-led learning and overcoming practical barriers such as language and access to technology. The presentation will be followed by an open discussion about challenges and barriers in capacity building and approaches to overcome these.
