    Description

During the (duo) keynote address Seeking Serendipity, Iwan Wopereis (speech) and Michiel Braam (piano and speech) interactively explain their study of serendipity in professional music. In this study, educational scientist Wopereis explored serendipitous behavior within professional practices of Braam, a renowned Dutch free-improv pianist, composer, and bandleader. Braam has a great affinity for the concept and discerns a clear nexus between serendipity and his improvisational work. The study examined several serendipitous experiences within Braam’s work and used an existing theoretical framework to explain them. During the keynote address, the audience is invited to provide input for (potential) serendipitous experiences.
