Description
Continuously we make eye movements of different kind; we close our lids (blinks), focus on a character within a word (fixation), move from one word to another (saccade), and our pupil changes its size (pupil dilation). Eye tracking is a technique to record all of these movements. This technique becomes a more and more popular tool in research on education. But why? This roundtable session introduces what eye tracking is and how it can be used in research on learning and instruction. We will see how this technique helps us to better understand expertise in different professions, such as medicine, air traffic control, or zoology. Furthermore, how eye tracking can be used directly to improve instructional design, for instance, by modeling examples that display the visual focus of an expert model and allows the learner to see through the eyes of an expert. Last, participants will be invited to discuss, how their domain could benefit from the use of this technique.| Period | 27 Apr 2012 |
