Workshop Four-Component Instructional Design (4CID) for staff of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science at the FernUniversität in Hagen

Activity: Attending or organising an event typesOrganising an eventProfessional

    Description

The workshop introduces the Four-Component Instructional Design model (4C/ID model) and its ten-step method for (re)designing instruction for complex skills. The model and method are well-respected among educational designers and are considered one of the few design approaches with a solid scientific basis. During the workshop, first the principles of the 4C/ID model will be briefly explained. Then, through a case study, the main design guidelines will be discussed. These guidelines are linked to the four components of good design: (a) learning tasks, (b) supporting information, (c) procedural information, and (d) part-task practice. The focus of the workshop will be on designing a series of learning tasks that form the backbone of an educational program. The last part of the workshop will be reserved for a discussion of the applicability of model and method at the Fernuniversität Hagen.

The workshop begins at 9:00 am and ends at 4:30 pm. The workshop is hand-on in nature, with participants working collaboratively on assignments. It is offered face-to-face at the university.
