Joop de Kraker is UNESCO professor of Technology-enhanced Learning for Sustainable Development at Open Universiteit and full professor of Sustainability Assessment at Maastricht University. At Open Universiteit, his tasks includes teaching (Ecosystems & Human Well-being, De Duurzame Stad), supervision of Master and PhD students, and research. His current research focuses on the contribution of technology-enhanced learning to solving the problem of plastic pollution. He collaborates in this with environmental scientists inside and outside the Open Universiteit, learning technologists and international organizations and networks such as UNEP and the Global Partnership on Plastic Pollution and Marine Litter.   

Joop has been working at the Open Universiteit within the Department of Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Science, since 2001. Research in the field of 'Technology-enhanced Learning for Sustainable Development' has long had his interest and he has participated in numerous international  projects on this topic. He has also published a number of practical books and dozens of scientific articles on the subject. The common thread here is the question of how best to support 'collaborative learning for sustainability' of students in higher education or professionals in practice.
