Project Details
Extended description
People with an intellectual disability (ID) face extensive stigma in society, strongly hampering their chances of living a normal life like everyone else. Studies suggest that this stigma is exacerbated by how audiovisual (AV) media represent ID. This research is set up to uncover the connections between stigma and stylistic and narrative representation strategies in AV media of people with ID in relation to cultural and social contexts. In collaboration with Disability Studies at the UvH in Utrecht I also aim to work in an inclusive way, meaning that I collaborate with co-researchers with an Intellectual or learning Disability to ensure that no research is “about us without us” and that their valuable input is integrated into the project.
