Project Details

Layman's description

Countries across the world have introduced Electronic Health Records (EHRs; ‘Elektronische Patiëntendossiers’). Smart EHR Use has the potential to reduce costs, increase security and quality of care, and enhance EHR system trustworthiness, thus contributing to sustainable, resilient healthcare. However, problems regarding EHR acceptance and use among healthcare professionals are frequently reported. The present project aims to develop an intervention toolbox to stimulate Smart EHR Use in a hospital setting, based on a multidisciplinary approach.

Extended description

Countries across the world have introduced Electronic Health Records (EHRs; ‘Elektronische Patiëntendossiers’). Smart EHR Use has the potential to reduce costs, increase security and quality of care, and enhance EHR system trustworthiness, thus contributing to sustainable, resilient healthcare. However, problems regarding EHR acceptance and use among healthcare professionals are frequently reported.

As challenges surrounding technological healthcare innovations involve a complex interplay between professionals, organizations, and technologies, a thorough understanding of critical success factors for Smart EHR Use requires a multidisciplinary approach, combining insights from psychology, HRM, education, and information sciences.

In this project, we aim to:

(a) Develop a multidisciplinary view on Smart EHR Use
(b) Develop and validate a Smart EHR Use measurement tool
(c) Identify psychological, organizational, and technological success factors for Smart EHR Use
(d) Develop and pilot-test an evidence-based Smart EHR Use intervention toolbox
