Abstract
In this contribution, we first address the results of the elections that
took place at all levels of government in Belgium. We also discuss
the latest amendment in the Belgian Constitution, which enshrined
the principle of animal welfare, and a memorandum issued by the
three highest Belgian courts indicating their concerns about respect
for the rule of law in Belgium. Next, this article provides an over-
view of the main cases of the Belgian Constitutional Court over the
past year that may be of interest to an international audience. Fi-
nally, we look ahead to several interesting pending cases, as well as
to the major constitutional developments that have been announced
in the coalition agreement by the new federal government.
