Abstract
Michael Faure has been Professor of Comparative and International Environmental Law at the Faculty of Law at Maastricht University since 1991, and Professor of Comparative Private Law and Economics at Erasmus School of Law at Erasmus University Rotterdam since 2008. As the scientific director of the Ius Commune Research School, he greatly contributed to the development of the Ius Commune Europaeum, which allowed for an increased and stronger international cooperation among academics, practitioners and students.
During his long (and still ongoing) career, he held many other positions in academia and legal practice all over the world, and published widely on a broad range of topics, most of which are reflected by the chapters in this book.
The book contains 39 contributions by 54 scholars who have collaborated with Michael Faure over the years, covering different topics and research methods. These contributions are presented in five different parts: (1) Torts and Insurance, (2) Environmental Law, (3) Competition and Consumer Law, (4) Law and Economics, and (5) ‘More views of the Cathedral’.
The phrase ‘by the end of the day’ is often used by Michael Faure when summarizing or synthesizing the most important insights from a seminar, conference, discussion or presentation. It therefore is a worthy title for this book with which we want to honour Michael for his magnificent work, his stimulating contributions to the legal debate and his inspiring reflections that have added to our understanding of law and policy.
