Conclusion

In this concluding chapter, the editors offer the bird’s-eye view of the theme and what the book has accomplished. Drawing from the preceding analyses, they reflect on the work’s contributions to developing a shared vocabulary, laying conceptual foundations, and providing institution-specific analyses of judicial governance schemes. Seeking to map out future directions for the field of international judicial governance, the chapter highlights the key insights emerging from the individual contribution. These chapters present abundant material and a diversity of perspectives on the legal frameworks, institutional arrangements, and lived practices through which international courts and tribunals are governed. The editors distil recurring themes and tensions in the field which surface across multiple contributions, and revisit them through the prism of analytical dyads as a way to chart the core questions likely to shape the field’s academic and policy agenda in the years ahead.
