Presently using Internet for searching information of any kind is an activity almost everyone does. Especially in education students frequently use the World Wide Web (WWW) for selecting information to accomplish assignments as writing an essay or preparing a presentation. The evaluation of sources and information is an important sub skill in this process, especially since students often search on the WWW for information. This study investigates how novices in the domain of psychology evaluate internet information. Results revealed that more then one third of all the evaluations were related to the expected connection to the task. This high number of evaluations can be seen as a focus on the usability and there was less focus on other evaluation criteria concerning the reliability and verifiability of information. Furthermore, more than 20% of all evaluations were categorized as vague. Furthermore, results more evaluation on the reliability of a web site led to a higher score in the selection of information.
