    Abstract

The world around us is constantly changing. Technological developments, ageing in society and the fewer young workers in the labour market have an impact on the working population and, therefore, also on the employees of the large administrative service provider that is central to this study. The study focuses on the effect of education and training on the sustainable employability of employees of this organisation. It also addresses the question of whether their age and degree of autonomy have had an influence on their enrolment in these courses. Objective data that had already been collected for other purposes in the HR administration system were used for the investigation. The study shows that non-formal education and training have a positive effect on vitality, work ability and employability. Formal education and training does not have such effects. The employee’s age and degree of autonomy correlate with their enrolment in courses and their sustainable employability. By generating information based on existing data, so the study reveals, HR professionals are better able to create added value and make the performance and agility of employees more transparent.
