Open Online Masters: MSc Environmental Sciences at Open Universiteit (OU)

Abstract

Currently, at a few Dutch universities, working professionals can enrol at Master programmes to study fully online and part-time. In this workshop, the Wageningen University and the Open University of the Netherlands will share their experiences with online learning in research masters in the life sciences: MSc Nutritional Epidemiology and Public Health (WUR) and Environmental Sciences (MSc) . This will give you insight in the possibilities of online and part-time learning with respect to curriculum design, academic competences, thesis research, and practical procedures. Both demonstrate how studying online works by showing how the programme of courses fits these target group of professionals. This will illustrate how students are challenged by active online learning assignments, how they interact with each other and their tutors, how core contents and lectures are delivered, how exams and assessments are organised etc. In this workshop, their different views are presented and discussed with the audience.
