Abstract
In this chapter we discuss the Open University of the Netherlands (OUNL). It is modeled on the example of the UK Open University. In addition, we show aspects that are specific to the Dutch Open University and its history. We conclude that the Dutch Open University will still have an important role to play in the Netherlands in the future, provided that it continues to fulfill and redefine its added role in the Dutch university system.
