Racism and Discourse

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceeding › Chapter › Academic › peer-review

Abstract

In this entry on racism and discourse, we will first present a brief overview of studies on racism in discourse, that is, the attempt to uncover and locate racism in texts, utterances, and interactions as a way of combating racism. In the next step, we will address the epistemological phenomenon we term racism as discourse, that is, the racist conditions of discursive production that erase non-White forms of knowledge, knowledge production, and producers. It is therefore this shift from the individual (text, speaker) to the structural (discourse, epistemology) that we aim to discuss.
