    Abstract

These proceedings consist of the peer reviewed papers presented at the Second TENCompetence Open Workshop. TENCompetence is an Integrated Project funded by the EU 6th Framework Programme which is developing an European, open-source infrastructure to support the lifelong development of competences. The workshop took place at the G-Mex Manchester International Conference Centre, UK, on the 11th and 12th of January 2007. The theme chosen was Service Oriented Approaches and Lifelong Competence Development Infrastructures, reflecting the significance of architectural considerations at this stage in the project, and the relevance of the eFramework in the UK. The papers are grouped into five thematic sections: (1) support for social engagement in Lifelong Competence Development; (2) pedagogical applications of Service Oriented Architectures; (3) managing and sharing knowledge resources and activities; (4) competence development and interoperability; (5) approaches to assessment.
