Abstract
This study explores how dynamic enterprise architecture capabilities (DEAC) are developed and implemented in the financial domain, addressing the need for agility in today’s competitive business landscape. Enterprise architecture (EA) plays a key role in supporting digital transformation (DT) by aligning strategic planning with implementation, though many organizations struggle to fully realize these benefits. To explore how DEAC are achieved, this research combines a literature review with a single case study involving interviews and a survey.Three propositions were tested, focusing on EA's capabilities in sensing opportunities, mobilizing resources, and transforming processes. The findings reveal that EA sensing and mobilizing capabilities contribute to identifying new business opportunities and aligning resources in the case organization. However, gaps in the EA transforming capability limit the case organization’s ability to reconfigure business processes and adapt to evolving market conditions.
Overall, the study provides partial support that DEAC can be developed and implemented in the financial domain. Recommendations include increasing post-implementation assessments and developing standardized frameworks. Future research should expand on this model by incorporating additional case studies and data sources to improve external validity.
